July 21st, the Church of New Hope
kicked off yet another fun Vacation Bible School.
There was a BBQ on Thursday night for families to learn
about what the kids had been doing all week and for the kids to slip-n-slide
on the lawn!
This year kids had fun with science as they learned about plugging into Jesus' power.
Each day included a bible story, crafts, cool videos and music.

About the Leader: Cathy Edmonson
- God has helped me through many phases of my life while
being a part of the Church of New Hope family and I can say to all that He
is faithful and true. Currently
I am Ministry Council secretary, help with children’s ministries, and help
with music as needed. I
generally just look for ways I can be helpful and try to fill a need; always
trying to doing so with a cheerful attitude.
-
- My relationship with Jesus is what really defines me as a
person. I want to do His will
and honor Him with all of my life. I
do not want to be the kind of Christian that turns people away from Jesus by
being harsh and dogmatic. Following
closely to Him, giving Him my cares and worries, and trusting Him with
everything takes lots of prayer (talking and listening).
-
- God is teaching me to love others – really love others.
I am praying that I will have a greater concern for my family,
friends, neighbors, and coworkers who are not yet believers.

*Sunday June 22nd was Youth Sunday! Many Jr. and
Sr. high kids served in different areas during
Corporate Worship.
Everyone experienced the flavor of music from youth group most Thursday
nights. It was exciting to see more young people in church.

*This last Sunday, June 1st, the Church of New Hope
celebrated the Lord's Supper with a different flare than usual. Visit
the Media page for the sermon Pastor Josh gave from
Luke. Click here to watch a short video capturing some moments from
the service. Everyone who attended participated enjoyed loaves of
bread and pitchers of juice. This truly was an event to remember.

*Worship/Music
Seminar and Acoustic Concert was held Saturday,
May 17th. The Seminar was very interesting. Pastor Josh taught us
how worship is a lifestyle not just the 20 minutes we sing Sunday
morning. All who came learned something new. The concert
at 1:30 was a hit especially because of the great talent that was there.
Thanks to everyone who came and supported local artists.

*The Church of New Hope now has its very own beach
volleyball court. Located next to the basketball hoop in the field the
net has already been played on by the youth group and numerous neighborhood
kids. Thank you to the stewardship committee and other who helped in
this project. Hopefully a summer volleyball tournament will be coming
soon!

*Saturday, May 3rd held two exciting events. At
7:00am was that first every Prayer Vigil. This will occurring the
first Saturday of every month. The handful that got up early and met
were blessed through prayer and celebrated a wonderful time together.
Later for lunch the Lady's Salad Bar Luncheon was a tasty success for all
the girls that came out for that. Thank to everyone who brought a
salad and helped out.

*Spring Family Conference was held in Colton Oregon from
April 4-6. The three churches at make up the Willamette Valley
conference (Church of New Hope, Canyon Creek Bible Fellowship, and Thompson
Road Bible Fellowship) were present and started Friday night with the Delegate Business Meeting.
Many new and exciting things were brought up and discussed about the
direction of the conference. Many shared about their vision and dreams
for the future of the churches as well. Our Pastor, Josh Spoelstra,
shared some exceptionally interesting ideas....learn more in the board
meetings to come or just ask him about it. President Tim Behrens talked
about how the three churches in our conference can work together (and pool resources) to have a more effective ministry, and discussed how we can use our funds to invest in further ministry efforts.
On Saturday there was a great chapel service followed by a variety of
seminars. Pastor Josh and Julie Struiksma presented a seminar about
Worship and Worship Teams. It was a lot of fun and included a jam
session with lots of drums! Saturday night there was a Bluegrass Band called
Jericho Road and then an acoustic worship set by Josh and Julie.
-
Sunday included Sunday school and the Sunday morning service in the Colton
church. Many youth joined in on the music team. It is very exciting to
see youth people learning and using their talents.
Gary Hardaway, Ph.D., from the Summit School of Ministries was the guest
speaker throughout the whole weekend and taught about leadership development.
This topic is especially vital to our churches and conference because we
have many young people who are wanting to learn and grow and many older
people who have the skills and knowledge to teach them.
*The Sunrise Service at Pioneer Park, March 23 at 6:30am
was a cold one but a celebration indeed of our risen Lord Jesus.
People gathered together from Hope Chapel Lewiston, First Baptist church
and many others including our own to worship and hear a message by Pastor Josh
Spoelstra. The sun shone with vibrant colors and filled the blue sky
with pinks and yellows. We are only left to stand in awe of our
Creator in the presence of such beauty. When the service was through
coffee and donuts were available and a few people visited. Breakfast followed at Hagan's Hall
for our congregation at 8:30 and was a fun time of celebration as
well.
*Church of New Hope had their annual meeting on February
3rd. The website was instituted. 2008 will be a wonderful transition
year between the church and the new pastor. Annual reports were
collected from all committees. A copy of these reports can be made for
anyone interested. The budget for 2008 was approved as well as the
plan to blacktop the parking lot. The Youth Group received funds to
help further their ministry as it has been growing.
-
*As many may know, the Live Nativity was a great success. Our parking
lot transformed into a festive scene full of angels, shepherds, various
animals, Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus. We enjoyed Christmas carols
sung throughout the narration of this wonderful story. After the
drama, everyone gathered for warm food and fun. Thank you Dick, Lisa,
and Kathy for all your hard work. And thank you to everyone one you
helped out and/or participated.
